Peter moved in to Artis when he was 101 years old. When we learned he had been a POW and was a decorated WWII veteran, we contacted the local Veterans Affairs office to help us welcome and celebrate him. He has since celebrated two more birthdays with us.
Beverly was a piano teacher, but because of her dementia, she hadn’t played in at least a decade. Then one of our life-enrichment assistants, Wayne, asked her if she wanted to play the piano. She responded with her usually boisterous “no!” Next, Wayne rolled the piano over to her and started tapping the keys. Within minutes, Beverly was once again “tickling the ivories.”
